One of my co-workers in Kon-tiki asked me, why don’t you apply to work at the Norwegian Maritime Museum? It has a relatively larger field of work compared to the Kon-tiki Museum. I called the  boss in charge there E.B.


We set an appointment for a quick meeting after I introduced myself to him as a designer and an artist working at the Kon-tiki museum.

Bygdøy is a peninsula situated on the western side of Oslo, Norway. Administratively, Bygdøy belongs to the borough of Frogner، It has six museums.


He asked me to write to him what I could do for the museum, so I wrote to him and attached some examples of my work in the former museum with my resume.


Fall 2016 I started working in the exhibition department there.

But I didn’t realize I had entered to work with someone who will leave an ugly impression on my experience about Norwegian work policy and system.

I started my small projects with my co-workers, projects concerned with children and childhood, since many schools visit the museum.


But it is funny and sad at the same time. Not the way I used to deal and talk to my previous managers, from the first day I felt there was something going wrong with this person who was supposed be my boss. That he was going through bouts of madness with me straight from the first day started there! Unlike my good co-workers who were glad for me being there, they took me to all the museum facilities and the halls in the museum to introduce me to each other and to get know the place.


He refused to let me get an office to work in for weeks, refused to give my car permission for parking at the workplace so I parked at Kon-tiki museum! He was watching my hands and watching what I say, what I do!


After weeks it seemed to bother my co-workers, so they asked him to give me an office that I can work in, so I got an office just after my colleagues request. He refused even to get an email in my name for the work! But my co-workers were always against his behavior, they give me an email address in spite of him.


He was watching the museum printer, what information did I print. When I go out to get the papers I found him holding my papers and reading what I have printed, although it's a museum work reports for the technique problems there!


Time I were late at work to complete the designs required at work, he standing at my door office and asking me to leave now, when I tell him I have work to do, let me done it... my colleagues also there, he say no you have go home! the time I go I find him he watching my hands, some time I have banana in my hand.


Although I have started and done a lot of work but most time work there was only to suffer from that man's behavior towards me. The only thing that kept me patient was the kindness and love of my co-workers...


I had done an exhibition in a short period of time, days, he called me to his office and asked me to close the door behind me after I have designed an exhibition and made it in few days. He told me, Victor you don’t give signals that you are smarter than all of us!!! Do you understand me??? You are not smarter than all of us! He was angry, and screaming like crazy!!!


I asked him: Has anyone complained to you about me? He says no. I told him you called me to your office shivering in anger to tell me this nonsense? I thought you wanted to thank me for what I have done!


After so much unethical behaviour from him towards me my co-workers were telling me they were going to talk to him... But the man seemed to live a different world in his mind with me, and they ask me not to take him seriously because he is under stress.

The exhibit that he thought to have sent smart signals, it was even simple exhibition, but was a big shock for him. so he asked me to not send signals that I am smarter than anyone there!

In a few months, I have completed a lot of work which the boss didn't like or expect, and began designing and implementing many works for the museum. I started to use the museum's car to work in cooperation with other museums!

The museum was suffering from artistic backwardness in art and design, I was trying to raise the level of the museum from an aesthetic and artistic point of view. Some of the employees there would agree with me after I had shown them examples and explained to them the concept of design and art.

The design level that I wanted to raise the museum to.


It has been repeatedly refused to rise in the design process level! I gave him some studies and projects with designs, examples and solutions to develop the suites of the museum and to develop and reorient lighting centers but it has been ignored.

Dozens of paintings painted in the 19th and 20th centuries, it had already been damaged due to ignorance in the process of preserving it and the lack of experience in it! Where heaters were placed under the painting just as barbecue and visitors drawing and damaging the paintings with keys or tools they have during visiting time! Even the wood frames were destroyed and had cracked! That was my first study with solutions presented to him in 20.10.2016 from the third day of my work there.

I still have a copies of the reports and studies presented and solutions to the museum's problems, that was neglected for the boasting of stupidity and arrogance.


I have provided a full report with pictures accompanied by examples of problems and solutions to the boss, but he kept arrogant and told me there is a private company that comes monthly to take care of the paintings. After I asked my colleagues they said that this is not true! I told him they said what you’ve told me is not true we need to save this paintings now! He said these paintings are not important to us, we want to throw them later any way! I told him they have been drawn hundreds of years ago! Seriously?? He said yes, we got them as gifts for free, we will change that hall later! I started to not believe him, I told my colleagues to ask him at least turn off the heaters underneath the paintings. After they asked him he did that. But the paintings are destroyed already, someone was trying to fix them randomly unthoughtful, ignorant and randomly painted with thick layers of varnish.

Huge amounts of money has been spent on projects that are supposed to be implemented by me but that boss was telling me don't bother, this is my problem, just leave the place, you have to! The man was suffering from aggressive severe and abnormal tendency towards me.



One of the children's projects, a children's magazine for exhibitions and their contents has been canceled too.



Until spring 2017 the boss told me it’s time to leave this place, Victor you must find another place to go to! I told him: You have to acknowledge my achievements here and write me a signed document first, tell what I have done here... he told me ok. He wrote what I accomplished and told me that I cannot write everything on a piece of paper, but this is some of what can be written here, the paper was signed by his manager Tove.



I were continue working with several projects with my colleagues that had been purchased and the money was spent on it, but his unethical behavior and aggressive behavior towards me as a foreigner up to five months there, had become unbearable. He went too far and crossed the line, I really hated myself and I hated my life and hate the place I am in... until I got to stick a picture of an alien on my badge. I start feel like I am an alien come from another planet.

I started to have many doubts about the integrity of the management, the management was notified more than once, but the matter was completely ignored, I wasn’t mistaken.

They just show their support and agreement with that boss and the way he treat me, they didn't even show any resentment or regret, it was the opposite, they took a proud position!


I did not let him to humiliate me or stand the position of the weak in front of him for being a boss, that's what was driving him crazy.


I proved my point of discrimination and my rejection of such inappropriate behavior, no longer any reason to be silent. I complained to the organization of the Norwegian center against racism of foreigners in Norway, then it became a big matter in many managements. When his managers asked him the reason of his actions he told them that "he is just human doing mistakes"!

The man I am talking about is in his fifties, not a child, a teenager or a young man!


My colleagues' view of him was different, they told me (Your presence makes him feel confused, insecure and lose self-confidence about his position as boss, because you know much and are able to do a lot! But don’t look behind...

Even if this is true, what he did with me falls under the fifth paragraph of the Harassment and Discrimination Act.


Despite the difficulties, constant harassment and problems that surrounded me from that boss, for me it was an important test of my ability to work and to control my patience and ability to keep working in an aggressive environment to work with someone who supposed be a boss, behaves aggressively and discriminately with me, I did a lot in a short period of time!

With great energy and considerable courage Victor has been engaged in, and partly leading a number of projects related to exhibitions and education during his time at the NMM:

• Taking initiative for a new attention re


garding conservation of the museum’s art collection. This resulted in a project leaded by the Department of Conservation of the Folk Museum.

• Designing and managing the installation of temporary exhibition “The taste of the 1700”, including design of a poster.

• Taking down temporary exhibition “Ocean Hope”

• Designing a booklet for children for the exhibition “At sea!”

• Assisting maintenance in the exhibition “No one shall drown”

• Various tasks in the Boat hall as preparation for a new exhibition which will open in

2019.

Victor has participated in all meetings in the Department of Exhibitions at the Norwegian Maritime Museum. He has also taken part in many smaller or bigger tasks at the museum, always with considerable energy. We have known Victor as a very competent and enthusiastic employee.




Norwegian law contains many regulations that strictly forbid, prohibit and criminalize harassment and discrimination.

This is one of the provisions of the law which that was breached with me.

Many of its clauses and provisions have been violated with me which punishable by law under the penal code in Norway.


§ 5. Prohibition of harassment

Harassment on grounds as mentioned in § 4 first paragraph is prohibited. By harassment is meant acts, omissions or statements that act or are intended to be offensive, intimidating, hostile, degrading or humiliating.

It is prohibited to contribute to a violation of the provision in the first paragraph.

The employer and the management of organizations or educational institutions shall, within their area of responsibility, prevent and seek to prevent harassment in violation of the first paragraph.


§ 6. Prohibition of instructions

It is forbidden 1 to give instructions to discriminate or harass on the basis as mentioned in § 4 first paragraph 2 It is also forbidden to give instructions on retaliation in violation of § 9.


It is prohibited 1 to contribute to a violation of the provision in the first paragraph.

§ 5.Forbud mot trakassering​1

Trakassering på grunnlag som nevnt i § 4 første ledd er forbudt.​2 Med trakassering menes handlinger, unnlatelser eller ytringer som virker eller har til formål å virke krenkende, skremmende, fiendtlig, nedverdigende eller ydmykende.​2

Det er forbudt​3 å medvirke til brudd på bestemmelsen i første ledd.

Arbeidsgiver og ledelsen i organisasjoner eller utdanningsinstitusjoner skal innenfor sitt ansvarsområde forebygge og søke å hindre at det skjer trakassering i strid med første ledd.

§ 6.Forbud mot instruks

Det er forbudt​1 å gi instruks om å diskriminere eller trakassere på grunnlag som nevnt i § 4 første ledd.​2 Det er også forbudt å gi instruks om gjengjeldelse i strid med § 9.

When I opened the work harassment page in Norwegian law with many ramifications, I found many of them had already breached with me. It is documented with my managers in the other departments, at the time when I complained after a torment that lasted for more than five months.



These challenges, difficulties and injustice raise you up to experience and wisdom and sophistication in your career.
